All actions are engendered from memory – both conscious and unconscious. Tradition is preserved through repetition, through its reperformance from memories that have been institutionalized. Memories also carry the seeds for change, preserving the biographical journeys we have undertaken so far to bring us to our present positions. Memories don’t only exist as the flows of time but as sudden flashes of realization that remind us of our place in the world. Hence, to recall is a crucial way to shake us into an awareness of the structures of our imagination and the ways in which we relate to others in the world around us.
